7.4.1 Grammar Spot - Past Simple 1

  1. Find the Past Simple of start, dance, like, work and travel.
Past simple spelling of regular verbs
  1. The normal rule is to add -ed.
    worked     started
    If the verbs end in -e, add -d.
    lived      loved

  2. If the verb has only one syllable and one vowel and one consonant, double the consonant.
    stopped    planned

  3. Verbs that end in a consonant + -y change to -ied
    studied     carried

Positive
I worked (in London for three years)
You worked (in London for three years)
He/ She/ It worked (in London for three years)
We worked (in London for three years)
You worked (in London for three years)
They worked (in London for three years)
 
NB! In the past all form, positive, negative and question are the same for all person.
 
Negative
I did not have/ I didn't have (a car)
You did not have/ You didn't have (a car)
He/ She/ It did not have / He/ She/ It didn't have (a car)
We did not have/ We didn't have (a car)
You did not have/ You didn't have (a car)
They did not have/ They didn't have ( a car)
